Codacons offers psychological help to embattled Crocetta

(ANSA) – Palermo, July 23 – Consumer association Codacons said Thursday it was offering psychological assistance to embattled Sicily Governor Rosario Crocetta amid concerns over his alleged suicidal thoughts.
Crocetta is on record saying ‘I could have done myself in’ in relation to a disputed wiretap published by L’Espresso magazine last Thursday in which he allegedly made no response when his doctor Matteo Turino, probed in a hospital graft case, said Sicily health councillor Lucia Borsellino should meet the same fate as her Cosa-Nostra slain father, anti-Mafia prosecutor Paolo Borsellino.
Three days later he claimed “someone wanted to stage a coup, they wanted to bring about my resignation or my suicide”.
Prosecutors say the tap does not exist while the magazine is sticking by its story.
“We believe these are very serious declarations that should not be underestimated,” Codacons said in a statement. “A regional governor needs to have the strength to tackle critical situations such as the one facing Crocetta, and he should never, under any circumstance, consider the possibility of suicide,” the consumer group continued.
For this reason, Codacons will make its team of psychologists and psychiatrists available to Crocetta “should he consider it appropriate”. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED © Copyright ANSA
